Finn Slough II

The Mermaid III must be one of the most painted and photographed derelict boats in the Lower Mainland.

I’ve painted it myself, in watercolor, many years ago.  It has tipped over more, and the repainting of its name has become more obvious, but it is still in the same place since it was let out to pasture decades ago.  It used to have a mast, too.

But people still do work on the water from here, as can be seen from the more modern boats in the slough.

The bridge over Finn Slough is a marvel of decaying wood over cracked timbers that still manages to provide passage to the other side where many of the community have their homes.  Some day soon, I imagine, that bridge will need some kind of replacement.
